Sense Cymru Assembly briefing: Social Services & Wellbeing Bill – Stage 1
Sense Cymru believes there is much to welcome in the Bill, including the single duties to assess needs and meet eligible ones, and the rounded definition of wellbeing and greater rights for carers. However, a number of areas need to be clarified or amended if the Bill is to serve the needs of deafblind people.

Sense Cymru welcomes a number of the measures in the Social Services & Wellbeing proposals. We welcome that Gwenda Thomas, the Deputy Minister for Social Services, recently wrote to a deafblind person that the Welsh Government will “strive to ensure that the specific needs of deafblind people, their families and carers, are fully integrated into [the] framework of support, including the new outcomes framework and Code of Practice”.

Sense welcomes the overall aims of the Children and Families Bill. However, Sense considers that several clauses within the Bill should be strengthened to ensure that the provisions made will meet the specific needs of deafblind children and their families.
