Independent dependency: living in two realities, the 9th international conference on acquired deafblindness, takes place in Lund, Sweden from 7 to 10 November 2012.

The 2011 - 12 survey is focused on social care provision and the implementation of the children’s Deafblind Guidance.

The report highlights that disabled people are twice as likely to live in poverty and even a small loss of income can tip people with a disability into greater dependence on health and social care services.

The most important issue for deafblind people will be to ensure that the deafblind guidance remains in force for both when the new legislation comes in.

Peggy Freeman, MBE, has sadly passed away following a short illness. Aged 94, Peggy was one of the parents who co-founded the National Deafblind and Rubella Association in 1955.
