Welfare reform
Our approach to welfare reform
The welfare system plays a crucial role in supporting deafblind people and their families both in and out of work.
It is essential that deafblind people are treated fairly by the benefits system. The system should be accessible to deafblind people and should take account of the specific impact of deafblindness.
From engaging with our members, Sense has the knowledge to advise government and other agencies on making a system that is fair to deafblind people.
Currently, two concerns for deafblind people and their families are the reform of Disability Living Allowance into Personal Independence Payment and the change from incapacity benefits to
Employment and Support Allowance.
