Sense response to the draft Care and Support Bill

19 October 2012

We broadly welcome the approach taken by the Government's draft Care and Support Bill. The most important issue for deafblind people will be to ensure that the deafblind guidance (Social Care for Deafblind Children and Adults) remains in force for both children and adults when the new legislation comes in. Without this we do not think that deafblind people will feel the benefits of the new social care system.

The Bill should give an opportunity to improve the system for deafblind people, and on Friday 12 October, a number of deafblind people and families met with members of the Bill team to explain what needs to be improved. This was a successful event and we hope that we will see the impact when the Government published its response to the consultation.
