Sense Battleshops Challenge with Shell
26 September 2011
On Thursday 22 September 2011, Shell employees went into battle in aid of Sense. Four teams took over four Sense charity shops in the London area in a unique fundraising showdown.
With 27 participants, Shell employees swapped their laptops for shop tills in a bid to make the most cash on the day in this Apprentice-style competition. Employees from across the finance department took over the running of Catford, Deptford, Peckham and Walworth Road Sense shops.
Much preparation was done in advance with teams having to gather in all of their stock and decide on their strategies for which displays to put in the shop window and how to market the day so as to ensure customers visited as well as which methods to employ for selling stock.
Teams were very creative with a whole range of activities taking place on the day such as face painting, dancers, raffles and unusual stock capturing the customers’ imaginations. The Walworth Road team even managed to persuade two policemen who were passing by to get soaked by sponges for a donation!
Success was measured on the highest percentage uplift against the same day’s trading in 2010. The overall winners were the Peckham team who managed to raise a total of £4275 in the shop, beating the previous year’s sales figures of £686: a massive 623% uplift.
The event raised over £14,000 in total including money through the tills and money through donations or justgiving pages.
Congratulations to all of the Shell employees for their tremendous fundraising efforts.
