About the event
An amazing walking challenge across Oxfordshire and Wiltshire
Have you got what it takes to participate in The RidgeWalk 2013?
Bigger and better than before, for the fourth year running, The RidgeWalk will take place in 2013! We’re on the hunt for more teams to join us. To date, The RidgeWalk has raised over £500,000 for Sense – sign up today!
Taking place along the oldest road in Britain – The RidgeWay, we assure you that this team challenge will test you and your team both physically and mentally. Determination and stamina are a must, and run through the core of your team.
For 2013, we are offering all teams a choice of two routes:
- PLATINUM route – trek 52 miles in 24 hours
- GOLD route – trek 26 miles in 12 hours
Both routes will be tough and completion of either route within the target time will depend on four key factors; preparation, training, mental toughness and that 'never say die' team spirit that must be created within your team in the lead up to the event.
Please do not underestimate this challenge! From the moment you register you need to think, train, prepare and fundraise as a team. Your team needs to be prepared to push the boundaries to encourage and motivate each other. Ultimately, it's this team ethos that will drive you on to succeed and make you realise that by working as a team anything is possible!
New for 2013 - we are offering individuals the opportunity to take part in this iconic event. Make sure you are one of the lucky few as places are limited.

Located in the beautiful Oxfordshire landscape, The RidgeWalk follows The Ridgeway - the oldest road in Britain, steeped in history and one of the most scenic national trails in the UK. The RidgeWalk base camps
Each RidgeWalk route will start at its own separate basecamp; there will be toilet facilities, camping plots and hot food available at both sites. Come and camp the night before the start – make a weekend of it with The RidgeWalk Crew!
Ready, set......GO!
The Platinum RidgeWalk starts at midday on Saturday 22 June 2013 and the Gold RidgeWalk starts 12 hours later at midnight. These alternative start times enable all teams to experience trekking through the night and most importantly, all teams will finish at approximately the same time at the same location, creating a spirit of camaraderie as you join fellow RidgeWalkers celebrating their own achievements!
The big finish - Barbury Castle
There will be facilities and hot food available at the finish line of The RidgeWalk, so why not get your family and friends to come and cheer you over the line!
The rules
Please read the rules and conditions of entry. It is very important that you understand and accept all these points. The rules have been created for you and your team’s safety and maximise your chance of success in completing either of The RidgeWalk routes.
Your team must consist of four trekkers (not three or five; strictly four) – this is made up of a team captain plus three team members. Supporting the team must be two support crew members that must have at least one vehicle.
Individual RidgeWalkers will walk within groups lead by a member of the Global Adventure Challenges crew. Trekking groups will be based upon your predicted times so you will be with people walking at a similar pace. We will be in touch with you a number of times before the event to see how your training is going so we can work out your predicted trek time.
The RidgeWalk information day
We will be organising an information day, which your team captain or vice captain must attend. We've said it before and we'll say it again, The RidgeWalk is tough and we strongly recommended that all your team members attend. You’ll be given lots of hints and tips from the organisers, Global Adventure Challenges, in order to help your team succeed. It's an important day and should not be missed! We’ll even throw in a brew and a biscuit. Further information will be sent after registration.
