20 August 2012

Paying tribute following the death of Lord Morris of Manchester announced today, Gillian Morbey OBE, CEO of Sense and Sense International says:

"On behalf of deafblind people across the country and everyone at Sense, I express my deep condolences to the Morris family at this sad time. Lord Alf Morris was a good friend and long time supporter of deafblind people.

"As a true pioneer and champion for disabled people, his tireless campaigning meant disabled people have rights that enable them to live as independently as possible.

"Significantly for deafblind people The Chronically Sick and Disabled Person's Act 1970, which he introduced and led through Parliament, included the very first mention of deafblindness in UK law. This paved the way for future legislation improving the lives of deafblind people.

"His passing is very sad, and what he achieved for disabled and deafblind people will never be forgotten. Lord Morris was a true champion and will be deeply missed."
