New group for deafblind adults in Cornwall

31 October 2011

Sense is forming a support group for young adults with sensory impairments living in Cornwall. The group is for adults aged 19 years old and over with sight and/or hearing loss and additional needs and aims to give its members the opportunity to socialise and experience a range of leisure activities. The group will meet fortnightly on weekends at different locations across the county.

Simon Allison, from Sense, who will run the group, said: “Being both deaf and/or blind can be incredibly isolating so it’s important that deafblind people have opportunities to socialise and take part in activities outside of their day-to-day lives. Sense is already operating a very successful group for young Cornish deafblind teenagers called the ‘Get Out There’ Group, which gives sensory impaired youngsters the chance to get out there and have fun like other teens their age. Now we want the same opportunities to be available for deafblind adults in Cornwall.”
