Mandatory Work Activity (MWA) scheme

Sense has pulled out of the government’s Mandatory Work Activity (MWA) scheme, sometimes known as Workfare, following a review.
There had been a small number of volunteers on the scheme in parts of Sense’s trading arm. Some of the participants had made a great contribution to the charity shops and had genuinely gained from the experience.
However, it was not thought that the mandatory aspect of the scheme was right and Sense intends to find other ways to make volunteering and work experience opportunities available to people who would benefit from them.
