Holiday appeal 2013
Can you speak strawberry jam? A taste of independence
Sense holidays are an amazing opportunity for deafblind children like Archie to have a taste of independence, and explore the world in their own way.
Although he has no formal communication - he can’t speak or use sign language - Archie found a unique way to tell his mum that he loves her. He gave her a jar of strawberry jam, which he helped make on his Sense holiday. It was the first gift Archie had ever given his mum.
Read a letter from Archie’s mum, explaining the joy that Sense holidays have brought her and Archie. Download your own jam recipe card.
As well as jam-making, Archie had the opportunity to try a range of activities, from visiting a farm to swimming. Our Holidays team work hard to provide holidays that are packed with sensory experiences, and help give children like Archie independence and adventure.
The sad part is that not every deafblind child that wants to go on a Sense holiday can. We have to turn many children away. And this is where your support is vital.
Will you help another deafblind child enjoy an amazing Sense holiday?
Your £5 gift could pay for a deafblind child to stimulate their senses of smell, touch and taste through jam-making on their unforgettable Sense holiday.
Your £30 gift could pay for an exciting afternoon of boating for a deafblind child, where they can feel the lapping water on their hands.
Your £100 gift could pay for two full days of exciting activities for a group of deafblind children.
Sense holidays helped Archie say ‘I love you’ in the magical language of strawberry jam
Please give a gift today, so other deafblind children don’t have to miss out.
