Getting a Result (support package)

The move into adult life is an important time for young people. Sense works with deafblind and multi-sensory impaired (MSI) young people and their families to help ensure that they are able to make an active choice about their future and feel more in control of their life.

We believe deafblind and MSI young people should be actively involved in making the choices that will affect their adult lives and will encourage the use of person-centred approaches to planning for the transition into adulthood.

Support for deafblind young people approaching transition

We can offer:

  • Information resources – such as the Getting a Result booklet, or DVD, which will help you to understand the transition process and how young people and their families can become involved
  • Help so that you receive the resources needed to fund a Deafblind Guidance Assessment that will assist in the transitions process
  • Liaison with other professionals to help them to understand your child’s needs and how best to involve them in the transition planning process
  • Advice and information to help you to understand what other options and support are available post-16 and post-19 years, and putting you in touch with the right people both for services provided by Sense and for those provided by other organisations
"We don’t just work with little ones. We make contact, the sooner the better, and continue that relationship right through to adulthood."
Jenny Fletcher, Deputy Head of Children’s Specialist Services

As no two families are the same, the support we offer will be individualised.

There will be points during the package when we will ask you to reflect on whether we have made a difference and what else might be helpful for you.
